Van Halen rides again

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I just got in from the Van Halen concert and man am I impressed. It was a fun show, they did all of their classics and spiced it up here and there. David Lee Roth was dressed loud and proud and was completely obnoxious as usual.

If you’re a fan of VH from those days, I highly recommend it. You’ll get to see Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen along with David Lee Roth. As an added surprise, Eddie’s son Wolfgang is playing bass guitar. Great show. Lots of fun.

Great concert, good time, and several hours in Chicago traffic to get there and back. Top it off with some White Castle and i’m set for the weekend. I totally needed that. :-)

Sleep is irrelevant, Work is irrelevant, there is only Portal.

What did I do before Portal? How did I survive? Why am I at work when I should be playing Portal? I wonder if I can get away with playing Portal at work? Questions like these are in your immediate future once you purchase the Orange Box.

I recently bought the Orange Box from Valve to get Team Fortress 2. One of the crew who’s playing TF2 got me started playing “Portal”, a game that comes with the Orange Box but definitely did not get the hype that TF2 did.

Imagine, you’re in a “training center” with a sadistic computer that needs your help “testing” a new weapons system. Too bad that some of the “tests” can be fatal if you’re not careful. Take that concept, toss in the gravity gun from HL2 and multiply it by the ability to throw portals, toss in a physics engine and you’re at pure hysteria. That’s Portal. Slow at first but once you throw a portal on a wall and then another down the the bottom of a pit and then jump in, you’ll be hooked. You’ll have to take my word for it, but wow… just wait. The HL2 physics engine really shines in this one.

So here it is, your official ID.com bullet list for this game.

  • If you have Orange Box and haven’t played Portal then you need to stop reading this blog and play Portal.
  • If you have Orange Box and have played Portal, then you’re not reading this because you’re playing Portal and officially have no life now.
  • If you don’t have Orange Box and need a reason to get it. Portal.

High Quality Vendor - Lifereef Filter Systems

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

When we got the 90g tank, it came with a Lifereef LF1-125 Berlin system. This was a great deal for us because we had heard of Lifereef and heard it was good, and it saved us from having to go find a pump, sump, and refugium.

Being relatively new to the hobby, I didn’t really know how to hook up all of that stuff, so I took a chance and sent an email to Lifereef. I got a response from them requesting a model number and telling me where to look to find it. Within a few hours, I had the instructions faxed to me and I was up and running that night. That was my first interaction with them.

Later on, I had some more questions about how I should design my new system that i’m building… I fired off an email to Lifereef to see what they offer. Once again, I received a thorough response showing me their offerings and some realistic suggestions. It’s nice to work with a vendor that’s not all about pumping their products.

So anyway, more Lifereef equipment is on it’s way to my house and I just can’t wait.

Hats off to Lifereef Filter Systems. Check them out their web site and shop with confidence. Lifereef Filter Systems is a high quality vendor with a great product and the willingness to back it up!

Finally! A rating for me!

I was being full of myself earlier and browsing the web when I came across this…

Even more stunning!

All these years and somebody finally made a rating for me. :-D
